What is a jumper?

A jumper is a small (5 mm x 2 mm, typically) connector that acts as a conductor for two or more pins on a system component.

Changes in the system hardware often require a change in the motherboard jumper configuration. For example, when upgrading a CPU it may be necessary to move a motherboard jumper to connect different pins to change the internal clock setting

.
ESD: Before changing a jumper always touch a bare metal surface on the case to discharge any electrostatic build up before handling any board components.
