First
of all, how do you know when your CD needs cleaning? Any of the
following could be a sign that your CD's gotten a little gamy:
- Most obvious: It just looks dirty.
- The CD skips-- both sounds and graphic images.
- It won't play at all.
You could buy a cleaning product made specially for CDs, but
they're often costly-- and unnecessary. All you really need is some
gentle soap, water, a soft cloth (you can buy inexpensive pads at
most music stores), and most importantly, a soft touch.
Contrary to popular belief, CDs are not indestructible! Be
especially careful when cleaning the data (clear) side of the disc--
you should avoid even getting fingerprints on it. To preserve the
data, clean the disc from the center out, and not parallel to the
data grooves.
